Here's a chance for following through with the sale of this book on American painting. I've seen the reproductions for this volume also, and again they are excellent. 86 reproductions of modern American artists' work, 18 of America's ""Old Masters"" -- evidence that we have no reason to be ashamed of the quality of the work being done in America today. Ninety per cent of the artists represented are still living. The text -- by the editor of The Art Digest -- proves conclusively that there is an ""American School of Painting, he proves it in his careful analysis of the development of art in America, the break-down into three currents of expression, and he supplements his critical data by brief biographies of the painters represented, and by listing the factual data about each painting reproduced. The reproductions are made from plates of Life magazine. The publishers have made a circular for bookshop use. Why not do a double-header job on these two important art books?
