Robinson describes the best cruising grounds he's discovered in thirty years of sailing. His opening remark that cruising is a subjective experience proves all too true in that almost nothing ever happens throughout his book. He and his family win no races, fight no hurricanes, and search for nothing much more exciting than harbors. What they do do is cruise; Nantucket, the Maine coast, Lake Ontario, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Florida, Lake Texoma (an artificial lake between Texas and Oklahoma), Puget Sound, and he gets as far as the Fijis. Vying with the colorful seascapes and shorelines are the 11 a.m. beer, the noon martini, the evening martini and an occasional Jerry Lewis movie ashore......... The book's main virtue is that it tells you the best months to cruise in particular areas. Chesapeake Bay is great in the spring and fall, but summer swarms with mosquitoes and jellyfish..... Enthusiasts only.
