DETOUR by William Wilson

DETOUR

By

Pub Date: June 26th, 1974

One can assume that Mr. Wilson has written this primarily as an instant coagulant although there's a little ecological end-of-the-line speculation as to what will happen to Woodsend -- the natives are sure freaky -- if the trees are cut down and ""the World"" is let in. The decision wavers between two brothers, Henny and Maybe; Maybe's the sheriff who wants Woodsend to stay just as it is -- a tourist trap, emphasize trap for anyone who stops there (to be shot, dismembered and handiwrapped in the freezer). By all means avoid the ground round at the diner and you might even want to go out of your way to take the detour to the nearest Hot Shoppe.
