One of these, the fearsome Wendigo, turned one settler old and mad overnight. And a little later in New Jersey a Mrs. Leeds gave birth to a demon. Benjamin Franklin and lames Audubon both ""made up"" American monsters for gullible foreigners, but even today there are dozens of people who say they have seen sasquatch footprints. Harmless.
