THE STORY OF MULBERRY BEND by William Wise

THE STORY OF MULBERRY BEND

Unfortunately the feeling of nostalgia in this seemingly uninspired tale is not counterbalanced by a whimsical imagination on the part of the author. In 1888, Jacob, bringing flowers to the poor people in dreary Mulberry Street, New York City, could have appeared as a delightful ""character"", but he is not skillfully portrayed by the author. Nor is he given much additional charm by the artist whose black and white sketches have an appropriate old-fashioned feeling, but in several instances are busy, and resemble the bland drawings found in low-priced coloring books.
