This is proposed as an alphabet book for pre-schoolers. There is no text and no illustrating letter for the various objects in the appropriate alphabetical sequence which are tied together by the string that winds from the first page to the last. The textless pages aim for instant identification of the items depicted and a dawning awareness of the alphabet as the pattern emerges. It is a good idea, but its success or failure is difficult to predict. It will depend on the children who use the book, of course, but those absent letters may be missed. There is enough room on the pages for parents or children to insert letters in response to demands of ""show me"" for those who catch on to the purpose of the guessing game.
