THE SHRINKING ORCHESTRA by William Wood

THE SHRINKING ORCHESTRA

By

Pub Date: Sept. 23rd, 1963

William Wood has written novels- one striking one (The Fit-1960)- and this collection of verse is personable, lyric, and sometimes joking as he writes about birds, flowers, his wife and child, city life, Crete, poetry and so on. If one test of verse is its memorability, Wood is not batting even passably with his floating free-form style, but he does have three or four poems here which would stand up ell in an anthology: Tattooed Man, On Achieving Blindness, Daffodil. His gifts are attractive enough if not particularly exciting as yet.
