THERE'S YEAST IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Along on a with her husband to survey the Ford Foundation holdings in the Middle East, this writer's determined feminine chatter deals out a running commentary on sights seen, people interviewed, foods ingested, in Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Cyprus, (the polite route to Israel from Arab lands) and Israel. Whether talking to the Director of Tribal Affairs in Iran on the problem of locating nomads and tying them to the land, or lambering about Lawrence Durrell's village on Cyprus while noting the discontent and strain between Greek and Turk; whether finding that Hussein is good to his mother from regular folks or talking to notables and royalty such as Abba Eban of Israel and Princess Ashraf Pahlavi of Iran; whether eating a state dinner or on the run. Willie maintains her enthusiasm at near the simmering point and provides a quick once over for stay-at-home ladies who have not ventured to ride a camel or climb Art- tomb, but who may want to try pomegranate soup some day, and will certainly want to know that the yeast in the Middle East means changing fare for many in land reforms, health and education projects-internally as well as Ford induced. Cuteness aside (what is commonly termed a husband appears as ""the roommate"" here), this provides a snap shots-with-a-purpose view of a fairly known area.
