This is subtitled and while the details are in essence from the Gospels, other interpretations, largely fictional or legendary, are accepted. For instance, Miss Gibbs identifies this Mary as the sister of Lazarus and Martha and furthermore as the ""other Mary"" of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Many of the devout will find this and unacceptable She also indicates that the link between Jesus and Mary had, on her at least, an inner conflict between the physical and the slowly and painfully emergent spiritual aspects. Granted these strictness, the story has validity, , color and lends stature to the role of Mary Magdalene in the troubled background. When the story opens, she is turning her passionate desires in the direction of the Centurion, Gains (who throughout serves a somewhat ambiguous role), and, thinking she can count on Claudia's friendship, finds that Claudia, too, is a dual personality. There are many scenes of her the most vivid and horrifying the orgy at the Baths. And threading them all, is the emerging story of Jesus.
