KIRKUS REVIEW

A collection of sixteen articles which originally appeared in Galaxy magazine, this is for the scientifically oriented layman who likes the odd fact, the unusual concept. It's obvious that rocketeer Ley has done a large amount of research for each piece as he discusses such divers topics as the discovery of the Neanderthal man, the phenomena known as ball lightning, the development of the metric system, the naming of planets, satellites, constellations etc., the extra-terrestrial implications in the Hook of Fnoch, the invention of the recording tape, bizarre oceanography etc. Then there's a lively dispute over the feasibility and the location of a future observatory on the moon (two other scientists contribute here). Interesting if of a limited appeal.
