New England austerity, and integrity are the best distinguishing characteristics of Winfield Townley Scott's poetry. And, indeed, most of the verses in this latest slim volume deal with New England persons and places, if one excepts the long dramatic dialogue Hamlet. There is, however and alas, a certain ineptness and insufficiency in these poems, many of which have previously appeared in contemporary journals; and one cannot but wish that this talent would at last mature and take some shape of definite outline. Of note only to readers with a strong interest in current poetic trends.
