This is the fourth volume of verse by a young poet of New England -- now 35 years old. Educated, thoughtful, refined -- these poems are a minor contribution to modern American verse. One feels the strains, terrors, and poignancies of the times, all faintly and intellectually indicated. The themes are, by a kind of indirection, mostly love and war. Mr. Scott is not bitter and black about our age, rather is he pained and puzzled. Technically, his verse is sound if not brilliant.
