MRS. POLLY'S PARTY

This lacks the simplicity and excitement which Winifred Bromhall has proved she could provide for small children in Belinda's New Shoes. The story is almost too quaint, too simple, as in large clear type and stylized pictures, we follow the episodic treatment of a sugar-on-snow party. Seasonally this is perfectly timed -- and the idea, while it has been done before, is still a good one. But the story is think, and Mrs. Polly, one of those perennial favorites in a little, round-faced old lady who lives alone with her cats in the country, and loves children visitors, emerges as just another such character, two-dimensional throughout.
