Here's a hardy perennial, a book that should make a plus sale with every sale of any baby book for the prospective mother. Whether parents have made up their minds about the baby's name or not, they will find much of interest and challenge in the foreword which touches, tantalizing, on the age long history of the sources of names, their significance in human history, their importance in life today. Then follows a dictionary of names. I looked up twenty, picked at random, and not one was omitted, and many of them were given in several forms, along with their derivations and meanings. Scholarship has gone into the exhaustive research necessitated by this book, and yet the result is so graceful and pleasing that one wonders that it has never been done before. Not slated for the best seller list, but a book for the long haul. Department stores should stock also in the baby clothes department, along with baby books. Important reference book for public libraries.
