CANADA AND THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM

By

Publisher: Duell, Slean & Pearce

This collection of Canada's Prime Minister's speeches, made between September 1941 and June 1944 are quite definitely keyed to internal problems and interests. They deal with central of economic life, compulsory service, labor problems, combatting the demands of the extremists, cost of living, meaning of total war, National Selective Service, the defence of Canada, temperance, inflation, common liberties -- and recurrently, the ness of Canada's and Britain's . As expression of Mackie King's leadership, these show him as undeviating in his determination to guide but not to force, to reflect, but not to wholly accept the dictates of public moods. The introductory material provides brief biographical and historical background.
