First and last, a feminine audience -- entertaining fiction with enough suspense to hold the attention, and with a psychological problem as the connecting thread. A girl's early life is colored by the tragedy of her mother's death in the electric chair, convicted of a crime on circumstantial evidence. Almost a duplication of the circumstance in her own life reveals by how narrow a margin guilt can be proved or disproved. Unimportant novel, but ranks with the more interesting mediocrity. For rental libraries, chiefly.
