HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY IN THE MIDDLE AGES

A new and complete study of both the Western and Greek Orthodox Churches from the fall of Rome in 476 to the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Dean Wm. R. Cannon, dean of the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, has written of this stirring period in the affairs of men with clarity and precision, in which he places men and events in the framework of the social and political scene of their time, and thus portrays the eastern and western churches as they affect, and are affected by the total history of those times. He uses a wide canvas, and many of the details of the medieval life he describes enliven the otherwise rather compressed narrative.
