For the audience that craves the hard-boiled type of realism. None of the sex brutality of The Postman Always Rings Twice; nor yet the callousness of Brain Guy, but belongs in that category. The lawless world, on the edge of the criminal world, panhandlers of Times Square -- such is the background for Ralph, a Jewish boy with no ambition but plenty of big talk, and of Willard, mid-western aspirant to stage fame, marking time as a soda jerker, and winning a bad name for himself through his kindness to younger boys.
