YOUR CHILD IS A PERSON

These three doctors have drawn on a ten year ""longitudinal research study"" for the findings here about behavioral patterns none of which are pace-setting discoveries; but their main postulate and conclusion which is both the premise and the purpose of the book is that no mother is ""uniquely responsible"" for the development of her child, whether good or bad; that too many parents are traumatized by any symptom of disturbance in the young--unnecessarily; and that all behavior stems from the interaction of the parent's personality and child's personality and the still broader social environment. Most of the book confines itself to a further examination of the study and what it revealed about sleeping and feeding patterns, toilet training and other forms of domestication, sex, the child's contacts with world--school--etc., and certain conclusions about the working mother, the slow starter. Much of it is supportive evidence of what has been stated in other books in this area, but the overall assumption is reassuring.
