Three additions to the projected series of 30 elementary science books. (See page 511 -- 1989 for report on first three that we saw, which we felt were artificial and dull). These three are very much better. They have gotten away from the indirect method of presenting the facts through conversation, and are using direct exposition, with legends and stories interwoven with facts. Type face excellent. Text simple and vocabulary sound for beginning readers. But the appearance of the books are hurt by the narrow margins and the atrocious colored illustrations. Line drawings are good.
