AMERICA AND COSMIC MAN

Americans may not like this book, in which English litterateur Wyndham Lewis, with his scalpel of scorn, has tried to stir our blood- even draw a little- by pointing with one finger at the tremendous destiny awaiting us, and with the other calling attention to our incongruities, our politics, our humor, our great figures. Lewis agrees that British and American antagonisms are deep and almost unbridgeable. He wants here to reveal our imago, presenting us as the ""first entire cosmopolis with the destiny of producing the first of a new species of man"". He sees us as ""dedicated to the future"", we are a new kind of country, the Greek dream of Cosmopolis. But to arrive at these conclusions he has a heyday of sport. F.D.R. was the Caesar Clubman.
