MORE ALICE

Yates Wilson picks up where Lewis Carroll left off in an attempt to satisfy his own daughter's desire for ""more Alice"". In recovering from an illness, Alice, the heroine, penetrates the wallpaper wood of her bedroom and encounters a bevy of creatures including a tortoise and a dormouse. She makes her way to the King's castle and once inside, comes to know the courtiers and to engage in the affairs of King Ethelred. Until she makes her way out of the wood, she is immersed in as many wild adventures as her predecessor. Although the story is set in the 19th century, its satire follows current issues -- dictators, iron curtains, even brain washing. If, like this author's daughter, the reader cannot get enough of Alice, this will offer a fulfilling dessert. From a literary standpoint, it deliberately parallels the original in both style and content and exhibits little to incur special merit on its own.
