THE SEW-IT-YOURSELF DECORATING BOOK

Pub Date: Nov. 1st, 1977

A large, brightly illustrated volume of instructions for those--furnishing or refurbishing--who can sew their own. The sample rooms don't resemble the sleek monochromatic interiors of department store decorators; rather, the suggestions assure a cosier, ladies-magazine look, with contrasting colors and complementary patterns used freely. Directions for covering window shades with fabric, perking up lamp shades with fringe, recovering chair seats, or matching crib liners and currains are presented clearly, along with the basics for making curtains, pillows, etc. The substantial number of ideas allows for variations of personal style and budgetary adjustments. Simple craft techniques--for applique, patchwork, needlepoint--are included, although the examples are often less than dramatic. Practical but uninspired.
