The author of this interesting piece of nostalgic Americana worked in his uth in one of these traveling dramatic companies. The story is about 17 years old Bruce Hatcher who, fresh off the farm, takes over a dog act and then joins the Macowan Players, a touring ""rep"" company. He is a little dismayed to discover that his incidental duties include not just setting up the tent, but also doing bit parts in the plays. With his country-boy style, however, he develops into a favorite comedian. Romantic interest is supplied by the ingenue, whom Bruce falls in love with. The dialogue and incidents are fresh and convincing in their recreation of the combined small own and show biz atmosphere.
