The possibilities of the little red wagon have captured the imagination of children for decades. This sparely told but visually dramatic tribute to Radio Flyers reflects those red-wagon reveries. The story begins one Saturday when a boy unearths his father’s old Radio Flyer as they explore the attic’s treasures. After much scheming and dreaming (and a few tumbles), the now-goggled boy’s ready by the following Friday to give the old wagon a test run in the sky: “I focused . . . / . . . and my Radio Flyer . . . / . . . flew . . . / . . . and flew . . . / . . . and flew!” Every “flew” represents a new double-page spread featuring the boy, then the boy and his dad, eyes closed, vrooming through the sky with the Radio Flyer. Pullen’s artful oil paintings zoom in and out on the father and son in exaggerated, distorting perspectives, emphasizing the boy’s expressive face and his dad in gleeful moments. (Picture book. 3-7)
