Copyright 1929-1930, and serialized as Rustlers of Silver River, this tells of Kevin's redemption by the quiet open spaces of Oregon and the love of a wholesome, outdoor girl- Veteran of World War I, his eye and jaw damaged, Kevin joins a pal to make a living by salmon fishing. But organized, commercial fishing interferes with them, keeps them in danger, until Kevin is given a bad name, and gets in trouble. He finds safety with a backwoods riverman and his daughter, Beryl, and from them learns outdoor and fishing lore, simple philosophy. Married to Beryl, he goes to the city to have his face and eye treated, proves his success to his old friends and back in the open country learns his new father-in-law is the possessor of a gold mine which is never to be exploited...
