The ""barrel"" yields still another opus from the grand daddy of the Western genre. There's the polish of practice, but it lacks the pace of today's Haycox or Max Brand. This story has a Horatio Alger twist, as it tells of an Iowa dude who inherits from an uncle a degenerating ranch in Arizona. Incognito, he arrives on the scene, planning to indict the foreman, but ends up forgiving him and marrying his red-headed daughter.
