THE ORNAMENTED CHAIR: Its Development in America

By

Publisher: Tuttle

The Historical society of Early American Decoration and specifically the Esther Stevens Brazer Guild is responsible for the publication of this book on the ornamented chair, a book that will take a permanent place as a reference tool among books on American antiques. It is done through the collaboration of qualified collectors, researchers, teachers and decorators, but stems back to the work originally done in this field by Esther Stevens Brazer and Janet Waring, who pioneered the digging out of source material on the earliest stencillers and designers of Colonial America and the century that followed. The English heritage -- the Sheraton ""fancy chair""- the decorated Windsor- the stencilled chair -- other types of painted chairs, span the period from 1700-1890.
