THIS IS HISTORIC BRITAIN by M. Sasek

THIS IS AUSTRALIA by M. Sasek
Released: March 15, 1971

"Sasek does get around and where there's sufficient visual variety—as in Alice Springs and environs—the book makes fairly interesting looking; otherwise a good deal of it looks alike and though this may be Australia, it is only a superficial aspect of it. (An error in dating on p. 24 is such that even a child may spot it.)"
The sleek buildings, sprawling cities and wide open spaces of Australia have about them little of the picturesque or raffish and so, little to offer Mr. Sasek though he must perforce put them on repeated display; convicts, now, are something else—though just what (i.e. why 'the first British settlers came in chains') we never learn notwithstanding the several references to them. THIS IS WASHINGTON, D.C. by M. Sasek
Released: June 30, 1969

"Clear-cut preview and review."
Sasek roaming the streets was a wayward charmer; Sasek as the standard guide to the city is considerably stiffer. Read full book review >
THIS IS THE UNITED NATIONS by M. Sasek
Released: May 27, 1968

"Adult fans of the series may miss the accustomed levity but teachers and parents can trade on the eye-appeal—including a spread of the maps of the 122 member nations—for a thorough briefing."
Like a tour of UN headquarters which it simulates, this is informative and entertaining and exhausting. Read full book review >
THIS IS SAN FRANCISCO by M. Sasek
Released: May 21, 1962

"One serious drawback however—binding is perishable board and paper paste-down."
City by the Golden Gate, Queen of the West, this is San Francisco, captured in spirit and essence by an artist who seeks out the vital and differentiating characteristics of all the cities he happily commits to the drawing board. Read full book review >
THIS IS MUNICH by M. Sasek

CHILDREN'S AND TEEN
Released: May 29, 1961

"The drawings are bold, imaginative, creatively humorous when occasion demands, and informative—but they have a somewhat mature sophistication, and their chief appeal lies in a recognition value rather than stimulating interest."
An addition to an alluring series which, one must confess, probably holds more appeal for the adults familiar with the various cities than for the children for whom they are intended. Read full book review >
