Good Morning America has picked Kevin Kwan’s Sex and Vanity as the latest selection for its popular book club, calling it “the summer read you can’t put down.”

Kwan’s highly anticipated novel, which was published on Tuesday, follows Lucie Tang Churchill, a Chinese American woman who meets and falls for George Zao, a Hong Kong man, at a wedding on Capri. A reviewer for Kirkus said of the book, “This is the only way you’re getting to Capri this year. Why resist?”

Kwan is the author of the bestselling trilogy of books that kicked off with Crazy Rich Asians, which spawned a blockbuster film in 2018. That novel and its sequels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, were all bestsellers.

Kwan recently told Kirkus that he didn’t find writing his latest book difficult at all.

“This was kind of a delight from start to finish,” he said. “I wish I’d had more time, but I’m kind of glad I hammered it all out. You know, it had been brewing for 10 years; it was already percolating in my mind.”

And he told Good Morning America that he was “thrilled” that his book was their latest selection.

“It’s a summer escape full of travel, food, fun and fashion,” he said. “The outrageous characters will make your crazy families seem almost normal.”
