Keanu Reeves will star in a film adaptation of a forthcoming thriller series by Oliver Lowe.

According to a release from publisher Zando, the Speed and Matrix star will also produce the movie, Kill Current, through his company Two Dragonflies, which he founded with his partner, artist Alexandra Grant. The first book in Lowe’s series is set for publication on May 11, 2027.

That novel, also titled Kill Current, will follow Jon Hendricks, a former CIA agent pulled back into the agency after the disappearance of his protégé. “Kill Current catapults the geopolitical thriller into the modern era—Reacher’s momentum, Le Carré’s stakes, and an arms race over technology,” Zando says of the novel.

The independent film studio The Arena will finance and produce the movie, with Zando founder and CEO Molly Stern on board as an executive-producer.

“Oliver Lowe’s masterful story, the first in his upcoming Jon Hendricks series, is poised to reinvent the geopolitical thriller for the modern era,” Stern said. “Kill Current is rooted in the issues shaping today’s world—semi-conductors, global supply chains, technological and information warfare. It delivers the fast-paced, globe-trotting read and complex, intriguing characters that thriller fans of any era crave.”

And Reeves said, “I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to develop the character of Jon Hendricks with these wonderful collaborators and that this is the project that launches Two Dragonflies which I share with my partner, Alexandra Grant.”
