Bootsy Collins will tell the story of his whole funking life and career in a memoir coming in 2027.

Mariner will publish the legendary bassist and singer’s Funked Around, Found Out, co-written with Caseen Gaines, next spring, the press announced in a news release. It calls the book “a wild, rollicking, firsthand account of the good ole days of funk.”

Collins, a Cincinnati native, began his musical career as a member of the Pacemakers, which changed its name to the J.B.’s after being hired as James Brown’s backup band. Collins later formed Bootsy’s Rubber Band, part of George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic collective. He has recorded several solo albums, including Fresh Outta ’P’ University, Tha Funk Capital of the World, and, most recently, Album of the Year #1 Funkateer.

Mariner says that his memoir, which features a foreword from Snoop Dogg, will include “psychedelic photos, costumes, guitars, and other surprises that are as closely associated with Bootsy as his thumping grooves.”

Collins shared news of his memoir in an Instagram video, saying, “Rubber fans and funkateers, I got some great news! Yeah! I finally did it! That book y’all been telling me to write? Well, I finally wrote it, and glory be, the funk’s on me!…Think you know about the B? Well, then don’t think again. Know for sure, because Bootsy Baby got the cure.”

Funked Around, Found Out is scheduled for publication on March 23, 2027.
