Journalist Bob Woodward will tackle American politics and a world at war in his next book, the Associated Press reports.

Simon & Schuster will publish Woodward’s War this fall. The press describes the book as “the revelatory, behind-the-scenes story of three wars—Ukraine, the Middle East and the struggle for the American Presidency.”

Woodward, who along with Carl Bernstein broke the story of the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon, is the author of more than 20 books, many of which have focused on the American presidency. His recent works have included a trio of books about the Trump administration: Fear, Rage, and Peril.

War, Simon & Schuster says, will cover President Joe Biden’s handling of the Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Hamas wars. “Woodward reveals the extraordinary complexity and consequence of wartime back-channel diplomacy and decision-making to deter the use of nuclear weapons and a rapid slide into World War III,” the publisher says.

The book will also deal with the 2024 presidential election, including Biden’s decision, less than three weeks ago, to withdraw from the race, which culminated in the Democratic Party’s selection of Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him.

War provides an unvarnished examination of the vice president as she tries to embrace the Biden legacy and policies while beginning to chart a path of her own as a presidential candidate,” Simon & Schuster says.

War is slated for publication on Oct. 15, three weeks before Election Day.
