Tara Westover’s second memoir is coming in 2027.
Random House will publish Brothers and Sisters next spring, the press announced in a news release. It calls the book “a remarkable memoir about Tara Westover’s choice to tell her own story.”
Westover became a literary sensation with her 2018 debut, Educated, which told the story of her childhood growing up in a survivalist Mormon family in rural Idaho and her decision to pursue an education, eventually earning a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.
The book was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and a finalist for several literary awards, including the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and two National Book Critics Circle Awards.
Brothers and Sisters will recount the fallout from the publication of Educated. “The book became a phenomenon, and soon after, her brothers denied events that they had once confirmed, or they confirmed the events but denied their meaning,” Random House says. “Perhaps there hadn’t been any violence, or perhaps the violence had been mild. Westover was believed by millions, but she was not believed by her own family.”
Random House publisher Andy Ward said in a statement, “Brothers and Sisters is deep, beautiful and stark—and in the end, I think, redemptive. Hard but redemptive. It makes you look at your own life and wonder: who would I be without a witness?”
Brothers and Sisters is slated for publication on April 13, 2027.
