Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator and star Rachel Bloom unveiled the cover and title of her first book on Instagram.
The comedian and singer-songwriter announced that her essay collection, I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are, will be published this November by Grand Central Publishing, a Hachette imprint. Bloom wrote that “depending on the election results it can be a tool for either celebrating or mourning.”
The publisher describes the book as a “collection of hilarious personal essays, poems and even amusement park maps on the subjects of insecurity, fame, anxiety, and much more,” and that Bloom “writes about everything from her love of Disney, OCD and depression, weirdness, and Spanx to the story of how she didn’t poop in the toilet until she was four years old.”
Bloom rocketed to fame with the success of her show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which premiered in 2015, but she’s been Internet-famous since 2010, when her comic song “Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury” went viral on YouTube.
Literary Hub’s Katie Yee watched an Instagram Live video featuring Bloom discussing the book, and learned that “the title is, indeed, a Little Mermaid reference” and “there’s a chapter written by her dog, Wiley.” (Wiley is featured on the book’s cover, lounging with his mom on a window seat.)
I Want to Be Where the Normal People Are is slated for publication on Nov. 17.
