Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon will tell the story of her life and career in a new memoir, People magazine reports.
Shannon’s Hello, Molly!, co-written with Sean Wilsey, will be published by Ecco next year. The publisher describes the book as “a candid, compulsively readable, hilarious, and heartbreaking memoir of resilience and redemption.”
Shannon’s memoir will cover her childhood, which was marked by tragedy: The comedian lost her mother, sister, and cousin in a car accident when she was 4. Raised by her father, Shannon went on to become an actor, joining the cast of SNL in 1995. She was responsible for some of the show’s most memorable characters, including awkward Catholic school student Mary Katherine Gallagher and NPR radio show host Terri Rialto.
“Witty, winning, and told with tremendous energy and heart, Hello, Molly! … sheds new and revelatory light on the life and work of one of our most talented and free-spirited performers,” Ecco said.
Shannon told People that she’s always wanted to write about her father.
"The book is a testament to my family," Shannon told People. "It's the good, the hard—everything we've been through. I hope that it adds up to being a lovely portrait."
Hello, Molly! is scheduled for publication on Apr. 12, 2022.
