Yerin Ha will lend her voice to Min Jin Lee’s next novel.
The actor will narrate the audiobook edition of American Hagwon, which Cardinal plans to publish later this month, Hachette Audio announced in a news release.
American Hagwon is the third novel from Lee, who made her publishing debut in 2007 with Free Food for Millionaires and returned 10 years later with Pachinko, which was a finalist for the National Book Award and formed the basis for an Apple TV+ series. Lee’s new novel follows John and Helen Koh and their three children, whose lives are thrown into disarray by the 1997 Asian financial crisis. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “The author’s wisdom is a gift to her readers.”
Australian actor Ha rose to fame with her role in the series Halo, going on to star in the fourth season of Bridgerton, the hit Netflix series based on Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels.
Lee said in a statement, “It’s a miraculous gift to have Yerin Ha, an exceptionally talented actor, who like the Koh family, has lived in Sydney, Seoul, and California, bring rich sympathy, incredible drama, and an earnest joy to her beautiful performance of the novel.”
All editions of American Hagwon are scheduled for release on Sept. 29.
