BOOK REVIEW

STONEDUST by Justin Scott
MYSTERY THRILLER
Released: Feb. 1, 1995

"Pleasant but ultimately exhausting, like a three-day weekend of tag sales. (Author tour)"
The hottest gossip topic in Newbury, that Shangri-la of pastoral Connecticut, isn't the spicy sleep-over party Duane and Michelle Fisk and their Jacuzzi planned for three other swinging couples after the lesser guests went home at 9 p.m.; it's the discovery the next morning of Duane's best buddy, Reg Hopkins, dead of a heroin overdose, demurely sitting inside his Blazer in the middle of a distant covered bridge. BOOK REVIEW

THE CUTTHROAT by Clive Cussler
FICTION & LITERATURE

"Despite an awkward transition or two and a bit of padding (there's a recipe for Welsh rarebit), the Bell series hits the right note for those who like crime fiction with a unique setting."

BOOK REVIEW

THE NINE DRAGONS by Justin Scott
FICTION & LITERATURE
Released: May 15, 1991

"Scott is a pedestrian stylist at best, butwhile some of the early going seems padded and slowthere's no letup in tension once the story gets rolling, with enough twists and surprises in the closing pages to satisfy all who persevere."
More solid storytelling from Scott (Rampage, 1986, etc.), now with an exciting, albeit uneven, novel detailing a young woman's desperate efforts to salvage her family's storied trading firmall amidst the turmoil and violence surrounding the surrender of British Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China in 1997. ``The Turnover'' is an event with enormous implications not only for China but for the entire international business community, and Scott does a good job of filling in American readers unfamiliar with the situation as he recounts how Victoria Mackintosh, returned to Hong Kong after the failure of the New York hotel in which she had persuaded her father to invest, is thrust into the role of taipan of Mackintosh Farquhar at a crucial point in the company'sand the city'shistory. BOOK REVIEW

Released: Dec. 4, 1994

"An enjoyable enough novel on its own, this is especially delightful when read with a copy of Stevenson's version on hand for comparison."
Scott's decision to update Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of seafaring adventure and piracy might seem a quirky venture at first glance, but the results are surprisingly rewarding. Read full book review >

BOOK REVIEW

MCMANSION by Justin Scott
