When Ollie and his siblings go out to play in the snow for the first time, they have a wonderful romp until they are frightened by a barking spaniel. Separated from the others in his flight, Ollie first follows his footsteps on the suggestion of a friendly owl but then loses his way and encounters some cheeky fox kits. The little retriever pup despairs, but not for long—it’s Mom and siblings to the rescue. This perfectly ordinary story receives cuter-than-cute treatment from Edgson, who seems unable to draw a scary line even when she needs to. The very definition of saccharine. (Picture book. 3-6)
