After describing the causes and deleterious effects of the population explosion, Aaseng discusses possible solutions and their moral ramifications and provides several case studies of societies that are attempting to solve the problem, delineating the reasons for their successes and failures. A final chapter redefines an approach to overpopulation in terms of the information provided.
