KIRKUS REVIEW

In rhyming text, Cartwright describes the movement of several different animals. “We are worms and we wiggle. / I’m a caterpillar. I creep. / I’m a fish and I swim. / We are lambs and we leap.” Each creature gets its own page, while marching ants stretch out across a double-page spread. Cartwright’s illustrations have a folk-art feel and muted colors such as slate blue, moss green and earthy brown have a soothing effect. In the end, a boy and girl appear—“We are children and we play”—which is what youngsters will likely want to do, mimicking each animal’s movement, while hearing this story read aloud.
