This mystery is one of British author Ann Granger's popular series featuring Superintendent Markby and Meredith Mitchell. Centered on an archaeological dig in the Cotswalds, the story features a cast of local and transient eccentrics. False clues abound, but are, of course, ultimately sorted out. Narrator Judith Boyd provides a competent and pleasurable reading. Her mastery of the diverse set of voices is uneven, with some consistently better than others. But her hesitancy is not confusing; one always knows who is speaking. Fans of the Markby/Mitchell team will find this to be an excellent addition to the series.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
