Four women bond over their shared love of designer shoes. What begins as a support group for shoe addicts quickly becomes a lifeline as the women become a crucial part of each other's complicated lives. Orlagh Cassidy gives life to the dynamic characters. She portrays the refined senator's wife with a haughty, clipped tone and the young nanny with a bit of self-conscious apology in her voice. Particularly comic are the scenes in which Sandra, an agoraphobic phone-sex operator, assumes her alter ego for the benefit of her callers. Fans of chick lit will appreciate these dysfunctional characters, especially as Cassidy's narration gives depth to the subtle differences in their backgrounds and personalities.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
