by Charles Jacobs ; Read by Dion Graham ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2024
This second novel in the David Blum thriller series is narrated by Dion Graham with the perfect mixture of hope and menace. Interpol agent David Blum must eradicate the latest science experiment being carried out by the evil Global Forces Alliance. This time, the GFA is working with bioacoustics to manufacture sounds that can be used to control human behavior. Graham lends a levelheaded fierceness to Blum that keeps listeners riveted. The evil agent of the GFA is easily identified by his low, menacing tone and husky timbre. Graham excels at portraying the female scientists who helped develop the threatening technology and now want to help destroy it. No shrinking violets--these women, including Blum's partner, have guts and daring.

by William Boyd ; Read by George Blagden ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 2025
George Blagden's pleasant performance of William Boyd's second suspense novel about occasional spy Gabriel Dax floats equably along like a story told over a glass of postprandial whiskey. It's an adventure set in 1963 England and Berlin, where, between conducting MI5 jobs, Dax and his compatriots savor many cocktails and cigarettes. Blagden's vocal register rarely varies from mid-tenor, a range that risks sounding uninflected but seems right for our hero, who is a young man, a young man caught up in the Cold War and world-changing events, including President Kennedy's famous Berlin visit. Blagden's command of American, Russian, and Latin accents adds to the verisimilitude. While indistinguishable females all murmur softly, it makes them sound mysterious and of another era.

Caspian Anderson retired from his secret role as the assassin Elias, but now that his parents have been taken into custody, he finds himself pressed into service again. Graham Halstead's steady, confident narration depicts Caspian's growing concern that his parents are entangled in a potentially deadly web involving the DEA and an assortment of international spies. One of these spies is Caspian's fiancée, Liesel, who is voiced perfectly by Halstead. As Caspian partners with her to pursue a potential link in France, he develops suspicions about whether she can be trusted. Halsted increases his pace and adds tension when Caspian must rely on physical violence to overcome threats to the successful completion of his mission.
