An incredible secret lies within the dull, dusty town of Madison, Nevada. Upon turning 18, the town's residents can make one wish--a wish that always comes true. Narrator Brian Hutchison ably conveys the story of Eldon, a 17-year-old boy who's having trouble choosing his wish even though his wish day is fast approaching. As Eldon ponders his decision, Hutchison weaves in and out of his consciousness, deftly conveying his struggle. Hutchison's command of female voices is admirable; however, many of the male voices sound similar. Context generally allows the listener to identify single characters, but when multiple voices enter the scene, confusion may arise. Though they may wish for greater variety and depth, listeners will eagerly follow the compelling story.

When she finds a magical portal in the forest that takes her back to sixteenth-century Wales, she must use her skills to win an archery contest in order to help her ancestors keep their land. While narrator Emily Wilden brings protagonist Merry to life with a rich Welsh accent, her narration seems uneven at times. All the period characters have accents that reflect the setting of the story and transport listeners to Wales. Listeners who enjoy historical fiction and a bit of fantasy will be charmed by this tale of determination, hope, and family.
