Lisa Flanagan does a superb job of giving voice to a mix of male and female characters from different parts of the world in this frightening story. A pharmaceutical company tries to gain control of the economy by killing off unfriendly members of the United States Supreme Court, which would allow them market dominance. It's a chilling story in the series featuring Hayley Chill, a damaged federal special agent who is battling her private demons--alcoholism and deep emotional scars--by directing all her efforts into her job. Flanagan brings out Chill's fear, indecision, and ultimate resolve. She also explores the motivations of another agent who is put into an impossible position when he is ordered to kill a Supreme Court justice to save the lives of kidnapped children.
