The People's Republic of China chooses tactical nuclear weapons and strategic scheming to overrun Taiwan and take complete control of Southeast Asia. Part of the ploy includes bombing some of their own ships. Along the way, several military installations, air fields, ships, and even a United States aircraft carrier are vaporized. The only thing that can stop this swath of destruction is a hybrid B-52 bomber and its renegade crew. Reader Edward Lewis's lack of vocal warmth seems to fit right in. His delivery is crisp, with good pace and tempo. However, he works way too hard at the voices of the principal characters.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
