HOW TO KNOW A PERSON

THE ART OF SEEING OTHERS DEEPLY AND BEING DEEPLY SEEN

NEW YORK TIMES opinion columnist David Brooks offers another work that promotes the principles, character traits, and social habits that can make life more fulfilling. Advancing the idea that healthy people need to be valued and understood by others, he combines his personal experiences with examples from history, literature, and social science to show how we can have more satisfying and authentic connections. He has a lovely baritone voice, and his speaking style is naturally articulate, relaxed, and conversational--perfect for delivering this inspiring and timely lesson. Elevated by his inviting performance as much as his graceful writing, this fast-moving audio will encourage listeners to share more of themselves in their relationships and develop deeper curiosity about the inner lives and circumstances of others.

    EVERY DAY I READ

53 WAYS TO GET CLOSER TO BOOKS

Rosa Escoda offers a warm, inviting narration of advice on living a well-read life. Hwang, author of the novel WELCOME TO THE HYUNAM-DONG BOOKSHOP, reflects on her relationship to books and suggests ways to fit more reading into our lives, as well as ways to read more broadly and more deeply. It's all done with a light and personal touch--Hwang talks about why a book club might be a good fit (or not), and about how she tackled the problem when she found her bookshelves starting to overflow. Shanna Tan's translation from the Korean sounds smooth and natural, and Escoda, with a lovely British accent, pronounces Korean words fluently. This is an audiobook for booklovers, and it'll make you eager to find your next read, or listen. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine

100 RULES FOR LIVING TO 100

AN OPTIMIST'S GUIDE TO A HAPPY LIFE

While a brief introduction to this audiobook is voiced by Dick Van Dyke himself, the balance is assigned to his friend Tom Bergeron. He does a remarkable, impeccable, and simply wonderful job, narrating with a rhythm and tonality similar to Van Dyke's. One might believe one is listening to the 100-year-old actor himself. In addition to talking about his life, Van Dyke also quite candidly describes living with the health and mobility issues that have touched him in his most recent years. Throughout the presentation, anecdotes and vignettes thoughtfully portray the pivotal influences on the man and his sensibilities. The novel approach of presenting the ever optimistic Van Dyke's "rules for living" works effectively.
