A full cast of actors brings to life this fascinating novel about the discovery of an alien computer found embedded in a million-year-old rock formation under the Sudan desert. Amid appropriate sound effects, the large cast, led by Lyle Blaker, portray the six scientists who are investigating the mysterious device while warring teams try to steal the device for their own purposes. At times, the narrators' varied accents are too thick, making the dialogue difficult to understand. Separating heroes from villains is part of the fun as the scientists and their benefactors try to stay ahead of their pursuers. All the scientists know is that the device could change life on Earth forever.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
