A GENTLEMAN AND A THIEF

THE DARING JEWEL HEISTS OF A JAZZ AGE ROGUE

Narrator Mike Chamberlain makes this true-crime story seem like a novel. Master criminal Arthur Barry came from a working-class family in 1920s Massachusetts. He recognized early that to be upwardly mobile, he needed to change his accent and behavior. Barry deftly used disguises, charm, and violence when necessary to move into upper-class circles, even hobnobbing with (and stealing from) royalty. Jobb reveals that Barry was more than just a clever thief, adeptly showing his meticulous planning for each heist. He watches the society pages, for example, for events to which people will be wearing jewels. As if Barry's exploits are not exciting enough, Chamberlain keeps the interest high with his entertaining delivery.

    CHASING EVIL

SHOCKING CRIMES, SUPERNATURAL FORCES, AND AN FBI AGENT'S SEARCH FOR HOPE AND JUSTICE

Former FBI Agent Robert Hilland and world-famous psychic John Edward narrate the story of their longstanding collaboration in solving cold cases. Their partnership--first distrusting and then blossoming into a true brotherhood--spanned two-and-a-half decades. Most of the story focuses on the famous John Smith murders, but it covers other fascinating cases, as well. Hilland narrates the bulk of the story, taking listeners from his skepticism toward John Edward to his developing awareness of his own psychic energy and spirit guides. Edward narrates dialogue so naturally that listeners will hear his conviction and picture his thoughtful gaze as he directs Hilland's focus. Hilland becomes a strong believer, and listeners will as well.

      THE FORT BRAGG CARTEL

DRUG TRAFFICKING AND MURDER IN THE SPECIAL FORCES

Dan John Miller's no-nonsense delivery is fitting for this explosive exposé of U.S. Special Forces units. Harp's audiobook paints a dire picture of power abuses deeply ingrained in the military. Listeners who are familiar with Delta Force or Seal Team 6 are likely to find the reporting here alarming. The title refers to a system of funneling opiates and other drugs onto military bases with little accountability. The violence described is often shocking as military personnel are given a lot of unchecked freedom to use substances, leading to outcomes both tragic and damaging. Harp's unflinching delivery encourages listeners to focus on these concerns, which are clearly in need of large-scale change.
